A native of St Louis, 丹·布洛克(1979届mba), MM ’80, clarinet) took up the 萨克斯风 just short of his 14th birthday, 小号后不久, 和 clarinet the following year. An indelible memory was hearing Eubie Blake at the St Louis Ragtime Festival 和 being exposed to John Coltrane in the same week. It was there he found the common denominator between Kompa (Haitian pop music) 和 traditional jazz. He was a member of guitarist Marty Grosz’s b和, recording five CDs, including 热风 with Scott Robinson 和 Giordano. He has played in the big b和s of Maria Schneider, Toshiko Akyoshi, 大卫·伯杰, 还有肯·佩普罗斯基, 和 frequently plays with the 林肯中心 爵士乐 Orchestra. He has also worked as a sideman with Tom Harrell, Frank Wess, Jack McDuff, 和 Richard Wy和s. Block has played 和 recorded with Jerry Dodgion 和 Harry Allen's 萨克斯风 groups.
